Why I Focus on One Main Character in Guild Wars (in an Account-Linked World)
Guild Wars might feel like three separate games—Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall—but it’s really one epic journey told in chapters. While I enjoy the flexibility of creating multiple characters, I’ve found that focusing on one main hero is the most rewarding and efficient way to experience everything the game has to offer.
1. Cohesive Storytelling and Deeper Immersion
By playing through all the campaigns and Eye of the North with one character, I get a consistent, evolving narrative. My main becomes the central figure in Tyria’s unfolding history—battling the Lich, confronting Shiro, stopping Abaddon, and finally standing against the Destroyers. That continuity gives me a deeper connection to the story and the world. It feels more meaningful than jumping between alts and piecing together the lore in fragments.
2. Unlocks and Progression in One Place
Heroes, PvE skills, and certain quest lines are character-specific. When I unlock heroes like Koss, Jora, or Gwen, they’re only available to that character unless I do the work again. That’s why I consolidate most of my effort into one main—it saves time, keeps all my key unlocks in one place, and builds a powerful support team for elite PvE content. My main also benefits most from account-based systems like the Hall of Monuments and some account-wide titles, giving me a real sense of progression.
Balance with Alts
I still use alt characters, but with specific roles—farming, testing out new professions, or running niche builds. They support my account, but my main is the one who’s earned the legacy.
In the end, sticking with one main gives me a streamlined, immersive, and efficient Guild Wars experience. It’s my hero’s name Tyria remembers—and that’s exactly how I want it.
So pick your main, build your story, and let Tyria remember your name.
